The Ceramic Museum of Lodovico Coccapani
“Lodovico Coccapani” ceramic museum is situated in Calcinaia centre, next to the corner tower of a medieval castle, inside an ancient ceramic workshop founded by three brothers Giuseppe, Andrea Sigismondo and Ercole Ranieri Coccapani in the last twenty years of 18th century. Since the end of 17th century their family had handled the ceramic workshop of Montecchio, a place near Calcinaia, owned by Carthusian monks.
Inside the recently restored building, visitors can learn about the history of Calcinaia ceramics through the productions and the environments of the ancient workshop, its furnaces and the ceramics tools, related to the Valdarno pisano ceramic production from Middle Ages to the present day.
